RODRIGUES A TINY SOUTHERN ISLAND FORMED AFTER VOLCANIC ERUPTION ABOUT 10 MILLIONS YEARS AGO AND SITUATED IN THE  NORTH EAST OF NEIGHBORING MAURITIAN ISLAND  IN THE INDIAN OCEAN

IN THE NORTH AT A VILLAGE CALLED ROSEAUX CLOSE TO PORT MATHURIN TOWN

"Roseaux peak" in the North guarded by an Endemic adult Pandanus heterocarpus commonly named as "Vacoas ".It uses as anti-erosion agent, provides shade, acts as wind break and provides high quality fibres for Handicraft which is one of the Rodriguan Economic Pillars. Those igneous stones reveal the island's volcanic nature....

THE BEAUTY OF NATURE:

Sun set beams observed (January 2016) from a center village of the 19 km long Rodrigues Island which population's, nowadays amounted to about 40,000 - excluding some more than 15,000 individuals, emigrated  to Australia, Canada, France, England among others but however ,the majority of them are established in Mauritius(mauritius.net/index.php) .....a Republic State of which Rodrigues became one of its Dependencies, after world war 2 in 1968, year of Mauritian Independence.

VEGETATION FOR SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION

ESCARPMENT OF A RIVER OYSTER-BAY AT A PLACE CALLED PAVE LA BONTE

Rivers are vital natural water courses which need

to be managed with high care. Catchment areas

comprise Forests areas which maintain both soil and

water conservation  and provide suitable habitat for

various Biodiversity. On both sides of the river banks,

Catchment areas normally extend up to mountain or

hill peaks and the sloping areas fringing them need

to be permanently maintained under forest covers

and are more effective when such covers are

composed of multi-storeyed canopy.

Water is life essential which means more than

important.Water shortage is not that such alarming

issue, rather its management is questionable. No

deaths in Rodrigues have ever been related to thirst -

due to lack of water....truth is that a considerable

percentage of the eight thousand  Rodriguan

families/households are under the poverty line.

Human rightly , each citizen should be provided with

basic needs and governmental actions should be

taken to fairly ensure that each and every family be

supported instead of assisted with a minimum of a

water tank as the habit of rainwater collection is in-

borne amongst the highly amicable society.

Pacifically, we need to be united to ensure water

conservation and communities could start by

removing alluvial soil from river floors rendering such
a life-giving liquid available for all and at the same

time recuperate wash away top soil due to both high

landscape reliefs and during frequent short heavy

rain falls over the various high landscape reliefs of

such a paradise place. Banning of plastic bags world-

widely modeled such a tiny 116 squared kilometer

island forming the Mascarenes Island with closer Mauritius

island and relatively more distant Reunion island,,,,,,

Taken on June /5 /2015 at 10.35 am...Blogged on March/7/2013
Photo of a typical River Reserve of Rodrigues Island which is situated North East of Island Mauritius in the Indian Ocean, Southern Hemisphere,

Photo Details
This photo has been taken at an altitude of about 200 meters from a center village towards the North. It illustrates a water course in the center of Valley
"Fond La Bonte"within the reserve of " River Oyster Bay ". The multi-storeyed Forest consists of mainly exotics namely Litsea glutinosea (with purple fruit- commonly named as Bois D'Oiseau), Bamboo, Eucalyptus tereticornis, Acacia species, herbs and grass among others. It is one of the only about ten permanent flowing Rodriguan rivers.  Rodrigues is mountainous with elevation of 30-60%, frequently visited by climate change and global warming cyclones(http://climatenasa.gov).
